Affordable housing in Göttingen: 214 new apartments will be built on Nonnenstieg street. Due to the high elevation of the building site, blauraum positions the seven buildings at different levels to minimize their impact. The rear buildings will have generous garden decks formed by a filigree and open shelf. Building applications have been submitted and blauraum is now continuing with the implementation planning.

A small “city within the city” has been created not far from the Elbphilharmonie. The KPTN building ensemble combines apartments, restaurants and shops as well as the Hafenbühne stage, a cinema and a hotel under one roof and behind a varied brick façade. The new development brings liveliness and diversity to Hamburg’s HafenCity district. At the same time, it is home to a wide variety of residents lilving in 220 free and subsidised apartments.

blauraum's vision of a new port typology on the Baltic Sea has achieved first place in an ideas competition. It aims to preserve fishing as a cultural heritage in the town of Sassnitz. The closeness of fishery and tourism provides local fishermen with new possiblities of income in times of declining fish quotas. The "House of Fisheries" will become a new landmark. Being built in the harbor basin, it evolves from the wooden pier landscape and protrudes above the water.

The densification project in the west of Hamburg has been awarded the "Special Prize BIM" at Heinze ArchitektenAWARDs 2019. Bel Ami places partner houses side by side with the existing buildings, creating a diverse spatial network. The jury praised "the good quality of its BIM process, the resource-saving design approach and its impressive socio-cultural value".

The building application has been submitted: On Fischerinsel in the middle of Berlin, blauraum is planning 210 modern and affordable rental apartments. The new building takes into account the exposed location on the Mühlendamm street and at the same time opens up to the park on the riverside. The building complex serves as a link between the high-rises of the 70s and newer block developments.

Pierdrei has received its first guests in Hamburg's HafenCity. The entertainment and family hotel is part of the new building ensemble KPTN, which also includes 219 apartments, a premium cinema, restaurants, shops, and a central piazza. The hotel offers 212 rooms as well as a large area for children and teenagers, a restaurant, bar and roof garden as well as a mini campsite.

blauraum gained 2. prize for Vattenfall’s new headquarters in Hamburg. The studio designed the building at a central location of the HafenCity as a sustainable wood hybrid construction. Its complex DNA takes into account the interests of the many stakeholders: It provides modern and open working spaces grouped around a large sun atrium. The city gains a lively and public ground floor zone, while the owner can respond flexibly to possible changes in use.

At the International Building Forum in Hamburg, blauraum and other renowned architectural offices developed ideas for the future of the city‘s highways. In close and inspiring cooperation, the interdisciplinary team developed the concept "From Freeway to Leeway" for Kieler Strasse, one of the city's main arterial roads.

The delivery service Stadtsalat opened its first flagship store yesterday in Berlin. blauraum was responsible for the planning of the shop with approximately 280 m². A large counter is at the center of the restaurant. It is designed as a simple white cube that directs the visitors‘ attention to the diverse healthy ingredients the salads and bowls.

In the competition for an office and residential complex at a prominent location in Berlin, blauraum was awarded 2nd prize. The architecture office designed the project on Kurfürstenstraße as an innovative timber hybrid skyscraper, with a module-based support system. The construction is not only sustainable, but also very light and flexible. The wood in the construction of the facade is visible from the outside.

On the Hallig Langeness community and project participants celebrated the ground-breaking ceremony for raising the mound of Warft Treuberg. blauraum plans the rebuilding of the Warft, which they have designed as an energy self-sufficient ensemble. In addition to a market place for residents and holiday guests, it also includes a health centre, permanent residences and the two works units of the municipality .

blauraum architects are now working on projects throughout Germany, from Lörrach in the extreme southwest up to the island of Sylt in the far north. Among the latest projects is the Dune Park List on Sylt, which includes new holiday cottages in the dunes as well as double and terraced houses for the islanders. A special feature of the planned holiday homes are "crows’ nests" from which every vacationer can enjoy his own sea view.

blauraum has developed an innovative approach to modern learning environments for the expansion of the Ferdinandeum student residence in Würzburg. Inspired by the traditional structure of monasteries, its design features two buildings with a covered walkway and courtyards. In the architecture competition the concept received the first prize.

An ensemble of subsidized apartments and commercial space is being built on construction field 99 in Hamburg's HafenCity. Today, the project partners celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony. blauraum plans the northern part of the building with 67 apartments. The aim is to create attractive and affordable living space directly on the banks of the Elbe river.

The research field has accompanied and evaluated seven model projects in order to obtain further information on the specific conditions of construction, planning and licensing law, behaviors and logics of the actors involved as well as on incentives that are suitable for qualifying and stimulating transformation processes. Particular importance in the field of research was provided by approaches to the creation of low-cost housing.

The coalition agreement between Rot-Rot-Grün stipulates the establishment of a high-rise development plan for Berlin. According to Berlin building regulations, skyscrapers are buildings with a height over 22 meters. Such buildings have been created in Berlin almost over the entire urban area in East and West in their time without an overall planning concept.

We are happy to announce that our HafenCity project KPTN/HC34 has reached a new step. Next Thursday we are going to celebrate the topping out ceremony at Überseequartier, the commercial center of the HafenCity.
At this vital location blauraum have envisaged a hybrid scheme with residential use over a base of commerce/gastronomy.

In the next few years, a new inner city town with islands will be built in the area of the former Zollhafen in Mainz.
The harbour islands have two different characters: the Flössercourt has the character of a homely residential block with a garden while the, the Kaufmannscourt has with its mixed use a more urban character.
The buildings of the Flössercourt form a closed block structure, with a green garden with hardwoods and shrubs inside. The residential buildings on the Flössercourt have so-called "Rheinlogen". These small balconies invite you to take a step out of the apartment and take a look over the harbour and the Rhine.
The dissolved block structure of the Kaufmannscourt has different building types and functions: The ground floor areas of the duplex apartments and townhouses of the city and captain's houses are also suitable for a private use by f.e. freelancers.

The buildings towards the waterfront are far advanced while the construction of the long block on the western side of the construction site is starting at the moment.
The quarter is composed of four point houses and a long block. The point houses are positioned towards the waterfront while the long block builds a prelude to the quarter.
A quality feature of the apartments is their corner orientation of the living and dining areas. These rooms have loggias or balconies so that everybody has the possibility to see the water.
The residents have access to a large communal space, which is connected to the public space of the neighborhood, thus promoting exchange and communication within the neighborhood.

We are going to plan the northeastern part of the small quarter with a mixed use building.

After a survey published for the Focus magazine, around 1.000 architects gave their recommendation for the best architectural offices in Germany. They could choose between seven categories which were: apartment buildings, single-family houses, office buildings, cultural buildings, industrial buildings, urban design and landscape architecture.

blauraum wins invited competition for urban development of a residential quarter in the north-eastern part of Hannover.
District School Bergedorf has been shortlisted for the World Architecture Festival Award (category schools).

Visit our project Hansa- terrassen at Architecture Day, June 25th. Guided tours between 2pm and 4pm.
Location: Hansaburg, Wendenstraße 493/499 in Hamburg.
The site is laid out in two areas with two buildings each, resulting in four buildings in total. The construction in solid masonry with compartmentation and structural stair cores allows for modular units and optimised floor layouts. All apartments are accessed via Ochsenweberstraße and guarantee dual aspect for sun lit rooms and pleasant views overlooking the adjacent park.
The four buildings are designed in a uniform approach but show variations in the two top floors. A change of directions of each single unit is generated through the modular concept. This generates maximum of privacy for the individual resident. Furthermore all apartments are fitted with loggias, balconies or terraces which correspond with the surrounding park. The overall façade treatment, in its variations, creates an appearance of town houses, in a placid setting.
