Residential Building Fischerinsel

Fischerinsel is located in the middle of Berlin, not far from the Museum Island and directly on the river Spree. Until the 19th century, wealthy craftsmen, merchants and fishermen lived on the island. In the 1970s, several high-rises were built here. After 1990, they were supplemented by closed perimeter block developments. The new building serves as a mediator between these different urban structures. On the main road Mühlendamm and the Fischerstraße it is designed as a closed perimeter block which improves the noise protection. To the park area in the northeast, the building opens up with its courtyard.

The eight-storey building is subtly subdivided by changing the proportions of wall, opening and rhythm. On the sides away from loud traffic noise balconies with different color schemes are set rhythmically. The courtyard is slightly elevated compared to the surrounding terrain, so that both a topographic openness and privacy is achieved.

On the ground floor, small-scale commercial spaces and a café are planned. The upper storeys are reserved for living, 50% of the residential units will be subsidized. Furnished apartments and shared apartments for students are also planned.
