Hamburg wants a new facade design for its Center for Resources and Energy (ZRE). blauraum‘s competition design proposes a light, permeable outer skin that plays with light and shadow and creates a moving image. An animated billboard is created by the movement of the viewer. This so-called moiré effect results from superimposing two layers of facade: the original facade of the building becomes the medium, the new curtain facade the filter.
From a distance, the facility appears as an energetic sculpture, similar to a hologram. The aim is to enable a change of perspective - away from the industrial process and towards a poetic vision of how we can deal with energy tomorrow. It tells an intuitive story about energy and its cycles.
